When will the 2025 altseason start? Michaël van de Poppe analyzes the scenario
Crypto analyst and influencer Michaël van de Poppe has reignited the debate over the long-awaited “altseason” in 2025, pointing out that, despite widespread pessimism, the most relevant signs may lie precisely in the current stage of devaluation of altcoins.
According to Van de Poppe, the true altseason — understood as a period in which most altcoins register significant appreciations — has not yet manifested itself in the current cycle. “We had a memecoin party in 2024, but nothing that compares to what happened in 2017,” he said, recalling the cycle in which practically all alternative assets soared.
The analyst notes that investors are divided into two groups: one that believes a new bull market is beginning, and another that remains stuck on the idea of a new bear cycle. For him, this divergence in views represents the kind of moment that precedes major changes in the market — and potentially significant gains for those who are well positioned.
Van de Poppe also points to macroeconomic factors as an essential part of the equation. The possible reduction in interest rates, the appreciation of gold and the performance of the yuan against the dollar are components that can signal a change in risk appetite. “When rates fall and the dollar weakens, assets such as altcoins tend to appreciate more than Bitcoin itself,” he wrote.
When #Altseason ?
One of the most asked questions, people are looking to make a large return, willing to bet everything on it.
Altseason hasn't come for a long time, the question is: when will this start to appear?

Despite the disappointment with the performance of altcoins in the first quarter of 2025, Van de Poppe believes that the current moment could be ideal to enter the market. “The best time to invest is precisely when you feel the most insecure. And that is exactly where the opportunity lies.”
He concludes by reinforcing that altseason is not a fixed point in time, but rather a window of opportunity based on market psychology. For him, we are already in the early stages of this window — which may represent one of the most strategic phases for allocating capital to alternative crypto assets.
Bitcoin heading to $120K?
In addition to his analysis of altcoins, Van de Poppe also shared his perspective on Bitcoin’s price action in the coming months. According to him, the asset is preparing for a new rally towards a new all-time high. “If the market corrects to $103, it’s a tremendous opportunity to accumulate more Bitcoin,” he said.

If the markets correct to $103K, that's a tremendous opportunity to get yourself some more Bitcoin.

For the analyst, surpassing the US$ 106 thousand range could act as an “elevator” to new levels, with projections that Bitcoin will reach values above US$ 120 thousand in the third quarter of 2025. The scenario would be driven by a combination of technical factors and favorable macroeconomic fundamentals.
